A chainsaw is an instrument that helps in surgeries but the main purpose of the chainsaw inventions is to assist in the childbirth process. As you know, in the olden days, surgeries, andc-sections were not common. It was a complicated process of childbirth but due to the invention of the chainsaw, the c-section has become easy for every doctor and mother.
But the chainsaw is not merely helpful in surgeries but it has help for cutting wood. Carpenter uses it and makes the desired wooden thing adorably. However, the main reason for the chainsaw invention is to be utilized in childbirth surgeries. That is the reason Why Were Chainsaws Invented. Now the question is, who invented the chainsaw? I have the answer. The chainsaw was invented by James Jeffrey and John Aitken, they were Scottish doctors. They invented the small chainsaws. It was not as big as you see nowadays.
The first chainsaw was invented to assist in childbirth but not for cutting trees. It plays a life-saving role at the time of childbirth because the life of the mother and baby is at risk during the obstructed labor. Some women face complications during the childbirth process due to the cesarean required to deliver the baby. In this process, there is a chance of infection, that’s why gynecologists use distinct methods to save the life of both.
Function of Chainsaws Invented
Some babies are stuck in the birth canal due to which it is difficult to deliver the baby on time. During this time, there are chances of infection that can harm both the mother and baby but nowadays, due to modern advanced technologies the childbirth process has become easy and the chainsaw assists in doing the appropriate function of the c-section. That is the reason that why chainsaws were invented
As we study in the history, the story of 1777, the doctor Sigault cut the Souchot’s pubic joint, due to which the life of the mother and baby was saved. This is the story of the 40 years old woman, whose 4 babies died because it was difficult to deliver the baby normally. The medical staff thought that she had no chance to deliver the live baby vaginally. The c-section was the last option to deliver the baby but there were chances of the failure of c-section in which the mother could have died. But the c-section was successful. Both the mother and the baby were alive. That is the main reason Why Were Chainsaws Invented to help in c-sections for women in surgeries.
Improvement in Symphysiotomy
Two Scottish doctors worked hard to improve the symphysiotomy method of utilizing the chainsaw tool that was James Jeffrey and John Aitken. Through their successful progress, the method has become known as the Aitkens flexible chainsaw.
The tool makes the process easy by saving the time in removal of the women’s pelvic bone during childbirth. The Aitken flexible chainsaw was unique because it was made with a fine serrated chain that had teardrop-shaped handles on both of its ends. The handle of the chainsaw can be removable so the doctor can easily attach the needle that was bluntly pointed at one end of the handle.
Before the chainsaws sharp knives and rigid saws were utilized to cut the pelvic bone of the women which required time in cutting due to which the infection spread in the mother’s body and then she could die. But after the invention of the chainsaw, this cutting process can be done rapidly due to which there is no chance of spreading the infection thus the mother and the baby will be safe.
In 1890, the Italian obstetrician Leonardo Gigli developed the Aitkens flexible chainsaw which was known as the Gigli twisted wire saw. The tool was the same but he had made the T-shaped handles that can be easily held by the doctor. It had a chain of wire that had sharp small teeth that were fine and could be easily placed.
The flexible and Gigli chainsaws are still utilized in the surgical procedure by surgeons and doctors. As time passed, progress in anesthesia and other medical improvements took place due to which the c-section and other surgeries have become easy and it is safer. Nowadays, modern tools are available for amputation but chainsaws are still utilized by doctors. The above reasons show the requirement that Why Were Chainsaws Invented.
The Invention of The Electric Chainsaw
In 1897, the inventor and naturalist, John Muir, invented the electric chainsaw. The invention was so large that its weight was hundreds of pounds and required a crane to reach the place of the operation that’s why that project failed. In 1905, San Francisco developed the endless chain saw. That tool was large and it required more than one person to use. After a decade, the Canadian James Shand made the first portable chainsaw that was bulky.
In 1926, the German mechanic Andreas Stihl made the first electric chainsaw for the logging function. Stihl has also made the gas version after three years. But these both required more than one person to handle. The one-person chainsaw was not made until 1950.
After World War II, the advancement in aluminum and other things, chains have developed again that are lightweight and can easily be handled by one person. A single person can easily operate it nowadays, there is no need for the other person while operating the c-section. As you know, lots of modern technologies have come nowadays that aren’t merely helpful in the c-section but other surgeries as well. Due to this, the surgeries aren’t merely easy but the surgeons and doctors can easily save the life of the person by utilizing modern tools in surgeries. That’s why there are minor chances of operation failure. Nowadays, doctors operated successfully, saving the life of the human. Not only chainsaws but lots of other electric and non-electric tools have been introduced.
After reading all the above information and history about the chainsaw then nobody can ask why the chainsaw was invented. The above details are enough to show the requirement of the chainsaw invention.
